By the time you’ve booked the photographer and the venue, altered the dress and sent the invitations, it's time for the next decision. Who do you choose as your hair stylist and makeup artist?

We have been providing hair and makeup services in Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus areas, combined over 15 years. With our years of experience, we wanted to take the time today to go over our thoughts on the wedding hair and makeup timelines. The timeline plays a huge part in the outcome of your overall day! If you have a wedding planner, they typically handle the timeline (depending on what they’ve included in your package) If you don’t have a planner, we are writing this to save you the hassle of figuring it out on your own.
Lets say, you have 7 or more girls wanting both hair and makeup, but need everyone to be done by 11:00a.m.
For that specific timeline with 7 people, I would suggest 45 mins per girl and 1 hour for the bride. When hiring a team, like us, we have individual people who come on site. This is important to factor, If you hire one stylist to do both hair and makeup she would need more time with each person. Here’s an example of how I would break down that hypothetical timeline creating a stress free environment for the bride and bridal party.
We would bring an additional hairstylist and makeup artist, to save you from waking up at 5:00 a.m. in the morning. It is always crucial to follow the directions your stylist gives you, i.e. make sure everyone shows up with day old dirty hair/ if they wash the morning of, to make sure its 100% dry. Coming with a clean exfoliated and moisturized face for makeup, and letting your stylist know in advance if anyone has a specific allergy to makeup products. We have done hundreds of weddings over the years, we truly want whats best for you. This is why, we might sound repetitive when going through the timeline process.

While the two makeup artists are able to start on other bridesmaids, the two hairstylists can start on the others. Having everyone there at the start time is always a huge plus! This creates less hassle for you, and helps everyone stay on track. With a total of 4 artists available, timing goes smoothly and efficiently. Sometimes we finish faster than 45 minutes, so when the next person is there to jump right in, and continue to stay on time.

Brides, please know, that the wedding day goes by so quickly. That is the number one thing we hear during the day of process. "I can’t believe how fast time is going by”, we are professionals for this reason, we not only continue learning the latest trends for your wedding, we take into account the mishaps we’ve seen along the way, and want to provide you with the best experience possible.
In closing, please know, that not all parties require two additional stylists. We do this for larger parties with constricted timelines. If you have an evening wedding and don’t need to be done until late afternoon, this scenario would not apply to you. We hope this was helpful and want to continue to provide our brides with the best information possible.

A special note from our Lead Hairstylist Elya for Melissa's wedding.
Melissa's wedding was my first solo wedding since joining the SPHMUA team. I couldn't have asked for a better more laid back bride!
On my way to the venue it starting to downpour. Once arrived I was in awe. The Pinecoft Mansion is like something from a fairy tale. The detail in every room is so breathtaking. It was definitely very fitting for Melissa.
Melissa's Style:
Melissa had very long hair. She wanted a braid with a very full low bun. To achieve a full bun we added some clip in extensions and using my texture iron to really pump up the volume.
Getting to know the bride:
Melissa is originally from Australia and first came to the US in exchange program. Melissa and her bridal party was so much fun to work with. One of my favorite parts about weddings is getting to hear where they all met the bride. She had two friends from Australia and two from here. It was so interesting to hear about the different cultures we have. Her flowers girls were cousins from Australia and they couldn't have been any cuter.

Jovana and I hit it off immediately. She was wanting to do a half up half down style or Side-Swept. We ended up doing both at the trial run and she decided she wanted it to be side-swept with a lot of volume and a braid incorporated.
Fun Couple Facts:
Jovana and Tim met in High school and they went on their first date their Junior year. Nothing had come of it, UNTIL - they reunited in their second year of college when Tim transferred to Jovana's College and they had sushi together. They've been together ever since. Isn't that adorable!!

Jovana is a sweet as can be, and I was honored she picked me for her bridal hair. It was so much fun and her bridesmaids kept me laughing all day long.
It was a hot and humid July day, but by looking at these pictures, you'd have no idea it was 90 degrees out. They all looked amazing and I'm so excited to share!
I have been waiting anxiously to share Paige and Dakotas wedding pictures! They have such a unique and beautiful style.
While doing Paige's trial run we realized we went to CTC together at the same time, but her Junior year and my Senior year! I knew we'd be a great fit for each other, and after she explained her bohemian style for her outdoor wedding, I could not wait!

Abby got married last year and wanted to do something super special for her and Matts 1st Anniversary. I was so happy when she reached out to see if I was available for their 1 year wedding pictures.
Their wedding day last April had SNOW on the ground, thankfully this time it was a warm and beautiful spring day! Ohio weather can be annoying to say the least, but I'm so happy they will now have new special pictures to remember not one but two big life events! Here's some of the pictures of their gorgeous 1 year Anniversary. The style she chose was similar to the one she chose on the wedding day but we wanted to stick with a more boho elegant look this time around. I ADORE how it turned out. Congrats again Abby and Matt.

Abigail and I met a few years ago through a mutual friend. So obviously I was super excited when she asked me to do her wedding hair. She is kind and SO Beautiful. I was so excited when I received her images. We did two looks for her wedding hair, as Ohio weather can be some-what unpredictable (giggle) because you never know if its going to be snowing or a warm spring day. Even in the middle of February (ha) So it did end up being quit warm for her wedding with a slight chance of rain.
With all of that in consideration we did her first style down with voluminous curls and the second style up, so she could shake her little tail feather all night long. (Because isn't that what the reception is about, after all)? Her bridesmaids were cheering her on all day long, and SO sweet! Abigail's dress was a show stopper for sure. I was drooling over it, one of my faves to date. The details were phenomenal and their robes were adorable. Basically I loved everything about this wedding and I am just now getting around to blogging it. Take a look for yourselves, you won't be sorry.

Caitlin and I met a month prior to her December wedding and tried out a few different hairstyles to compliment her dress along with giving her the desired volume she craved. We didn't actually do the style at the trial run that she ended up wearing the day of. She knew what she wanted and was absolutely right! She chose to wear a simple yet gorgeous high bun. It was the perfect style for her big day, and boy, did she rock it! Is there anything better than a high textured bun? I think not. Ha!
Caitlin and her bridal party welcomed me as soon as I walked in, and let me use my creative freedom for their styles. One of the bridesmaids asked me for a "modern beehive" I was in heaven. I love when brides let their bridal party pick individual styles they want to wear, after all they do have to wear it all day! Either way its always fun getting to know a new group and form a bond. I am so grateful the Brauns recommended Caitlin to me. I felt like we were a perfect fit and I am so excited Caitlin and Adams new journey together.

Oh, my gosh! Where do I even begin. I met Jenny three weeks before her July wedding. I was so happy when we finally got to meet and to go over the hairstyles she was looking for. Jenny had a lot of hair but it was also super fine. To create a softer look, we did a few different styles to meet what she was looking for. I always tell my brides, a trial run is the best way for me to get to know your hair and to get a feel for the texture of it. I am seriously so glad I met Jenny, She is SUPER sweet, (like called me 3 days before my own wedding to tell me, Thank you and Congrats and words of encouragement) I mean could she be any-more adorable? I love knowing that while this is not only a job, its also creating lasting relationships with my brides.(warning this will be repetitive in my Blogs, because its true). I was over the moon, when I got Jenny's pictures back and saw how gorgeous she looked (not hard to do when you're already drop dead gorgeous) but to see how the entire day transpired and all of the happiness. My Favorite Part of The Day -- Mike sent Jenny and her Bridesmaids Starbucks, while they were getting ready and it was the Sweetest.

When I first met Tara, I realized we were going to be a perfect fit. Not only is she super gorgeous she's super sweet too. During the bridal preview we discussed the options of what she was wanting and how to accomplish it, specific to her hair texture.

Tara has beautiful long blonde hair, so I knew the wavy retro look she was going for wouldn't be a problem.
The day of the wedding was pure bliss, Elya and I showed up on-site and ready to go at 8:00a.m. and although it was raining, nothing got in the way of great hair and a fun, energetic bridal party.
